Welcome to After Taxes Music.

My name is Jim Mathis. One of my goals is help you be a better musician and especially a better performer. I have been playing music off and on for more than fifty years. When I am not on stage, I am a huge fan of all kinds of music.

I play pedal steel guitar, acoustic steel guitars such as Dobro, National Tri-cone, and Weissenborn guitars, and bass. I also write songs and sing. I am a founding member of the Heartland Steel Guitar Association.

Of the above, I feel I most accomplished on the acoustic resonator guitars such as the Dobro. If you are interested in learning to play the Dobro, lap steel, or elementary pedal steel guitar, I would love to help you.

We can arrange lessons in whatever format suites your lifestyle, though weekly lessons seems to work best. Please give me a call so we can talk about your musical goals, and arrange a time to get together.
